Fit For Life: What Should You Eat for Breakfast?

What do you eat for breakfast? Coco Puffs? I hope not! OK, for your kids if you can't get them to swallow any morsel of food before school. (But you must know a large portion of the calories come from sugars?) My cousin Ben Di Tosti, a Jazz Composer/Pianist/Accompanist who lives in California, has a breakfast routine he's been following for years. Each morning he has fruit. When he stayed with me for his Patchogue High School class reunion, I remember, his protocol did not deviate from this.

Ever since reading Fit for Life , twenty-five years ago, Ben underwent his conversion. "I have so much energy and no hunger pains that sometimes, I forget to eat mid-day. By then I have my dried fruits and nuts. It works for me."

If you check the website at Amazon, you will see the reviews;  the book has been updated.

Ben also follows the protocol for eating fruit the right way. You will probably be amazed to discover that there is a right and a wrong way to eat fruit.

  The Right Way:

DO NOT EAT FRUIT AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit on an empty stomach, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD - Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining: "Every time I eat water-melon I burp;
when I eat durian (fruit from Asia with a foul smell yet delicious flavor) my stomach bloats up; when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet."  Actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes - all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health,
energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans.. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste.

Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

Before you make your decision not to switch from choices of bacon, eggs, toast, muffins, bagels, lox and cream cheese, pancakes, waffles, croissants, scones, McDonald's breakfasts, etc.,  review this information again.

I'm glad my cousin is healthy and vital. He has been a wonderful influence on my life and I want him to be around for a long time to come. And I'm not sharing his age with you. You wouldn't believe me if I did.

A friend, Achamma left a comment which didn't appear here. Her Question:

"What we eat is supposed to get mushed up in the stomach along with the digestive juices. When that is the case, wouldn't the fruit help the other items go through the system easily?"

Well, Achamma, according to the articles about this (lick on the word information highlighted in pink at the bottom of the post. A URl for Food.Med will come up; just go to that website.)when eaten at the end of a meal, the fruit ferments in the stomach and causes bloating and gas. I know that when I have practiced a behavior for years and had a negative result, after a while I became so inured to the negatives (pain, etc. had this with gluten allergy) I didn't think another result was possible. If you don't mind the bloating and gas, fine. You would have to try to see for your own body, if there is a difference by eating fruit on an empty stomach.
